Mcdonalds teaching nutrition to kids?
Since Childhood obesity and the diseases that usually accompany them are on the rise, Mcdonald's wants to teach kids a little about nutrition.
Mcdonald's now invites school children to their local restaurants to conduct workshops designed to teach them about healthy eating strategies. The children learn about fat, sodium, and calorie counting. The kids are then allowed to make their own sandwiches.
Is this a joke? Mcdonald's teaching children about healthy eating?
Is this how Mcdonald's plans on battling the obesity epidemic in this country?
By choosing their hormone injected, antibiotic fed, silicone coated chicken nuggets over their hormone/antibiotic fed beef full of preservatives?

The RDI's Are Marginal
The Reference Daily Intake or (RDI's) is the daily intake level of a nutrient that is considered to be sufficient to meet the requirements of 97–98% of healthy individuals in every demographic in the United States.
I have a problem with the RDI's. The numbers are too low to be used for optimal health. The amount of Vitamin C needed to prevent scurvy is about 30mg/day, so the RDI was set a little higher which is about 60 mg/day. If you want to get the full antioxidant effect of Vitamin C a much higher dosage is needed. Many experts recommend 1000 -2,000mg/day.
The RDI's for VItamin D is only 400 IU. This is an ok amount for the health of your bones, but if you want to have benefical immune system support a much higher dose is needed. New research over the last couple of years has shown that Vitamin D plays an important role for the immune system.
The RDI's for Selenium have been set at 70 mcg's, but if you want the optimum antioxidant power of selenium 200 mcg would be recommended.
Do You want your health status to be just above the disease threshold? Or Do you want to be at Optimal Health?

Lose Double The Weight
How?
By logging what you eat in a Food Diary. A Study Conducted by the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research showed that dieters lose nearly twice as much weight by keeping a Food Diary than those who dont.
Keeping a Food Diary is an effective way to lose weight because it gives you a birds eye view of what you are eating.
At the end of the day you can look back at what you ate, analyze it, and see where you made good food choices and where you need improvement. Keeping track of what you eat also gives you accountability for your actions. You are more likely to make healthier food choices if you are logging everything you put in your mouth down. Tell at least one other person that you are keeping a food diary and show it to them regularly. This will add more accountability to the picture.
In order to have an effective Food Diary you must be as specific as possible.
Write down the food item, the time you ate it, the portion size (ex. 1 cup, 6 oz,), how the food was prepared (ex. fried, boiled, sauteed, raw)
I like using a memo pad specifically for this purpose.
If you like using Phone Apps this will be helpful to you:

How Many ORAC Points Did You Get Today ?
What am I talking about?
Oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC)
It is a way of measuring the Antioxidant power of a Food.
The USDA recently removed their ORAC DATABASE
because they say:
"There is no evidence that the beneficial effects of polyphenol-rich foods can be attributed to the antioxidant properties of these foods. The data for antioxidant capacity of foods generated by in vitro (test-tube) methods cannot be extrapolated to in vivo (human) effects and the clinical trials to test benefits of dietary antioxidants have produced mixed results. We know now that antioxidant molecules in food have a wide range of functions, many of which are unrelated to the ability to absorb free radicals."
Even though The USDA doesnt believe in their ORAC System anymore....
I STILL DO !!!
Dr Glidden N.D recommends 20,000 ORAC Points a day to help best protect you from oxidative damage.
So what Foods are High in ORAC Points?
