How?
By logging what you eat in a Food Diary. A Study Conducted by the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research showed that dieters lose nearly twice as much weight by keeping a Food Diary than those who dont.
Keeping a Food Diary is an effective way to lose weight because it gives you a birds eye view of what you are eating.
At the end of the day you can look back at what you ate, analyze it, and see where you made good food choices and where you need improvement. Keeping track of what you eat also gives you accountability for your actions. You are more likely to make healthier food choices if you are logging everything you put in your mouth down. Tell at least one other person that you are keeping a food diary and show it to them regularly. This will add more accountability to the picture.
In order to have an effective Food Diary you must be as specific as possible.
Write down the food item, the time you ate it, the portion size (ex. 1 cup, 6 oz,), how the food was prepared (ex. fried, boiled, sauteed, raw)
I like using a memo pad specifically for this purpose.
